I'm passionate about the arts, environment, education, global health, and especially working on behalf of children at all stages. As a dynamic leader with more than a decade of experience in the social sector, I help organizations support their missions through fund development, strategic planning, partnership building, storytelling, and management of transdisciplinary, geographically dispersed teams. I currently serve as the strategic communications director for the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) East Africa Preterm Birth Initiative (PTBi-EA)
During my tenure as a communications consultant, under the business name WiseExposition, I worked with hundreds of Bay Area professionals across multiple sectors. My clients included Hearsay Social, Hewlett-Packard, MarkLogic, Equinix, Fluidigm, LeapFrog, Thomson West, PaperSeed Foundation, The Stewardship Council, Foundation for Youth Investment, WestCoast Children's Clinic, Catholic Charities, UCSF, UCBX, Kirkland & Ellis, and more.
I'm proud of my 20-year tenure as an educator – having taught composition, business communications, grant writing and marketing writing at both San Francisco State University and UC Berkeley Extension.
My work at SFSU focused on helping students from diverse backgrounds (many first-generation college goers) think critically about social and political issues, analyze complex literary and non-fiction texts, frame cogent arguments in clear and compelling prose, address varied audiences, and present information with confidence and style.
My work at UCBX focused on preparing professionals for the challenges of writing effectively in the workplace.
I hold an MA in English with a certificate for teaching writing to adult learners from San Francisco State University, and a BFA in fine arts from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCUarts).
